High Priority Adds for this week
These are the HIGH PRIO adds for this week, chosen by our Music Directors.
You’ll find all of our adds from previous weeks on The Playlist.
So The Smashing Pumpkins are back and they are “unrestricted to a particular sound”
Some songs sound very melodic with piano laying down the groove while other songs are very gungy
There is probably at least one song that you would like on this
RIYL: Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots
Start W:/ Silvery Sometimes, Solara, Knights of Malta
Fuses hip hop, atmospheric instrumentation, and ~simple yet poignant~ production
his first LP from ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective label!!
this label has provided me nothing but lovely electronic adds for the past 2 years
like ODESZA but more simple and lo-fi-ey
RIYL: Shlohmo, Bonobo, Nosaj Thing, Kiefer, pluko
Start W/: Warmth, Dusk
Wow the title of this album is such a mood.
It’s a break-up inspired alt rock album aka pretty much the same theme as a large amount of my adds, but it’s still really good!!
Songs 7,8, 10, 11, and 12 are explicit, but the clean versions will be on NexGen.
RIYL: Born Ruffians, Arcade Fire, Architecture in Helsinki
Start W/: I Must Cry Out Loud, Bottom Is A Rock, Biting On A Rose
This is the most chill and relaxing thing I have gotten all semester
Vocals are very relaxed and do not get in the way of any of the instrumentation
Simple guitar riffs and small hints of synth backing songs up
RIYL: Slowdrive, The xx, London Grammar
Start W:/ Pillow, If All Is, Frail Device
this is her debut album!! she traveled a lot and wrote about it!
Florence + The Machine-esque in reflectiveness, Natalie Prass like in vocals
“a self-made ritual for intentionally experiencing and remembering stories of both deep loss and fulfillment.”
RIYL: Natalie Prass, Julia Jacklin, Cat Power, Angel Olsen
Start W/: Island of Women, Game to Claim
Frontperson is comprised of New Pornographer’s Kathryn Calder and Woodpigeon’s Mark Andrew Hamilton. Frontrunner is their debut album.
The album is dreamlike and atmospheric but also vaguely folky. The songs are very light and calming.
The album reminds me a lot of the Saintseneca album from the beginning of the semester, if you were into that.
RIYL: Belle & Sebastian, Sufjan Stevens, Keaton Henson
Start W/: Postcards from a Posh Man, Young Love, Tick-Tock (Frontrunner)
This is Gilfillan's second EP as he is continuing to find “new life in soulful sounds”
It is a pretty neat combination of bluesy guitar and funk with drums setting a nice groove in all the songs
Very rich vocals with soul inspired sound
RIYL: Sam Lewis, The War and Treaty, Alabama Shakes
Start W/: High, Troublemaker, Here and Now
This EP features Surf Dad’s who added “both musicality and tasteful guitar melodies as well as the driving drums that they have become known for” to the album.
The album leans toward a lively rock feel with buzzing guitar and strong vocals.
RIYL: Jeff Rosenstock, PUBLIC, Garbage
Start W/: I Learned How, Pretty Textbook, Making It Better
despite the lack of promised dogs this album is v good
She played every instrument on the record, including guitar, piano, drums, bass, cello, and glockenspiel!!
lo-fi beats with Angel Olsen like vocals? very low key bops that I am very into
RIYL: Ian Sweet, Half Waif, WHY?
Start W/: Happy Kitten, Outside Looking In
